The subject of research in this article are the idioms-headlines in the Russian press. As we can notice in the Russian press there are many idioms. Part of them is used in their traditional forms and meaning. But many idioms are the subject of the author's transformation. A result of this transformation are new-coined idioms. Some of them have got the new meaning, others - the new form, or the new meaning and the new form simultaneously. Very interesting are the new idioms, in which one component was exchanged for another on the ground of the sound conformity.
